Woman Killed In I-95 Crash Easter Weekend Identified

 

Elkton – On Friday April 14, 2017 at approximately 6:21 a.m. Troopers from the JFK Highway Barrack responded to southbound I-95 at MD State Rt. 213 to investigate a single motor vehicle collision, according to Maryland State Police.

Officials said preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 silver Saab was traveling southbound on I-95 in lane 2.

For an unknown reason the driver of the vehicle quickly swerved to the right. The vehicle left the roadway just before Mile Marker 106. The vehicle traveled off the roadway through the grass before striking a concrete culvert, according to troopers.

Authorities said the vehicle continued another several feet before striking a large tree head on. The vehicle then traveled several more feet before striking another large tree. The vehicle then tumbled, before coming to a final rest on the passenger side in a ditch.

The front seat passenger Renee Johnson-Ware, 61, of New York succumbed to her injuries. The driver, Keid R Stevens, 25, of North Carolina, was transported to Christiana Hospital in Delaware. The two rear seat passengers Khari Dejo Damani Fentres, 24, of North Carolina and a 9-year-old  male were transported to John Hopkins Hospital by Trooper 1.

Elkton, MD. – At approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree before rolling approximately 80 yards. Two patients were extricated from the vehicle and flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

The crash occurred on I-95 South Bound at 213 in Cecil County, Maryland.

All South bound lanes were closed for more than an hour as rescue crews worked to free the passengers. North Bound lanes were closed as the the helicopter landed and again as it left for the hospital.

Reports indicate that the vehicle caught fire after the crash and responding Trooper’s were able extinguished the fire.

Witnesses at the scene indicated that one passenger may have died on scene. This story is developing
