Newark – DelDOT and road crews were out Sunday getting ready for the John R. Downes Bike To School Week. The crews spent the day in the rain painting lines on the pavement for the Casho Mill Road Bike Lane Demo.
As part of the Downes Bike to School Week, the Downes community is encouraged to safely bicycle to school.
Bike to School Week Activities:
• Bike Trains – Monday, May 8th: Join one of four group bicycle rides to Downes. Rides start at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Wesleyan Church of Newark, Nottingham Swim Club and Fairfield Park at 8am. Rides will be led by parents, Mayor Polly Sierer, and Newark Police officers. Bicycle helmets are required and locks are recommended. Rain date is May 9. In addition, Mayor Sierer will deliver our second annual Bike to School Day Proclamation.
• Casho Mill Road Bike Lane Demo – Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to test out safety improvements being considered for the Casho Mill Road bike lane and share your ideas using an online survey. Volunteers will be available on Wednesday, May 10, from 3-6pm to answer your questions and assist with survey completion.
• Rate Your Ride – Parents are invited to provide input on the bike lane demonstration project. A survey will be available online during Bike-to-School week at https://goo.gl/0Mdw72.
• Tell Your Story – A digital story map has been created to show positive and negative aspects about your child(ren)’s bicycle ride to and from school. Throughout the week, parents can take a photo along their child(ren)’s bicycle route, pinpoint the location of the photo, and provide comments at http://arcg.is/2n7ZggN.
