Woman Struck By Truck In New Castle

New Castle, DE – Delaware State Police responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, August 19, 2016 at around 9:13 p.m. Police said Shannon M. Emmett, 29 of Bear, darted from the east side of US 13 in the area Lisa Drive in a westbound direction.

As Emmett entered the northbound lane of US 13 she stepped directly into the path of a 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, which was being operated by Eric J. Russo, 20 of New Castle. The driver attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid the pedestrian. The impact knocked Shannon M. Emmett to the grassy median where she came to rest. Eric J. Russo was able to bring his vehicle to a controlled stop in the center median.

Shannon M. Emmett was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. She was then removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where she was admitted with serious injuries. Shannon M. Emmett was cited by troopers for Failure to Cross Roadway at Other than a Crosswalk.

Eric J. Russo and his passenger were not injured in the crash. No other charges are expected.  Police closed the northbound lanes of US 13 in the area 35 minutes as the crash was investigated and cleared.
