Police Release Photos Of Person Of Interest In Wawa Trash Can Fires

Newark – NPD is attempting to id the pictured person of interest in connection to a reckless burning incident that occurred at the Wawa located at 601 Ogletown Road in Newark, according to Newark Police Spokesman Lieutenant Fred Nelson.

wawa-fire1Nelson originally said that at approximately 11:00 P.M. on Monday, February 6, 2017 ,Newark Police responded to 601 Ogletown Road, Wawa, for a reported trash can fire that had already been extinguished, according to Newark Police Spokesman Lieutenant Fred Nelson.

Nelson said that according to Wawa employees, a customer noticed a trash can fire in the area of one of the gas pumps at 9:15 P.M.  An employee used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and the fire department responded as well, said Nelson.

wawa-fire2Employees then discovered a second separate trash can had debris inside that was smoldering, however, it failed to fully ignite, according to Nelson.  Upon review of surveillance cameras, a suspicious male was observed in the area of both trash cans around the time of the fire.  There were no injuries during this incident and the only reported damage was to one of the trash cans, valued at $150.00.

The Newark Police is attempting to identify the male observed in the area of the trash cans, who is described as follows: white male, mid 20s – early 30s, average build, thin black beard, straight black hair, wearing a gray pullover hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes.
