Newark Man Charged With Stabbing Man

Newark – Newark Police Department has arrested Stephen D. Evans following an alleged stabbing that occurred on May 21, 2017 at 1:38 a.m. outside of a residence in the 300 block of Paper Mill Road, according to NPD Spokesman Lt. Fred Nelson.

Nelson said officers responded to the residence and located a subject matching the suspect description, however, he fled from police on foot. Witnesses reported that the victim, a 22-year-old male, had engaged in a mutual fight with Evans and that the victim must have been stabbed during the confrontation, said Nelson.

The victim sustained an approximately one inch cut to his right arm, according to Nelson.  He was taken to the Christiana Hospital by ambulance, treated, and released.

Evans was located and arrested on May 22, 2017 outside of a residence in the 200 block of Kinglsey Drive, Newark without incident.

Evans was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony and Resisting Arrest.

He was video arraigned in front of Justice of the Peace Court 11 and given $23,000 secured bond. Evans was later turned over to the Department of Corrections at Howard Young Correctional Institution.
