Police: 1-Year-Old Child Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver

Wilmington – New Castle County Police (NCCPD) are currently investigating a hit-and-run that left a 1-year-old injured in the community of Tuxedo Park, according to NCCPD Spokesman OFC JP Piser.

Piser said today at about 10:30a.m., County Police were dispatched to the unit block of Roosevelt Ave for a hit-and-run involving a child. Upon arrival, police learned that a silver Mazda sedan struck the child while leaving a residence on that block. The child was provided emergency medical attention at the scene and transported to an area hospital. The child is currently listed in stable condition.

The Mazda was located at about 11:55 a.m.and stopped in the 6900 block of Lancaster Pike (Hockessin). The driver was taken into custody without incident.

Traffic Services Unit Detectives responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation.

Further suspect and incident information will be released as it becomes available, said Piser.

The child was airlifted by Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) to Christina Hospitals.
