Serious Crash In Bear Closes Route 40, Three In Hospital

Bear – At around 2:35 p.m. today, June 18, 2017, Delaware State Police along with rescue crews from Christina Fire Company Engine 12 responded to Route 40 at Walther Road for report of a serious accident.

Arriving crews found two vehicles with heavy damage and several patients in need of assistance. Witnesses at the scene indicated that three patients were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) landed near the crash but it’s unclear if it was utilized.

The Delaware State Police released a statement urging drivers to avoid the area while they investigate the crash.

The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash on SR 40 eastbound at Walther Road.

The incident occurred around 2:35 p.m. today, June 18, 2017 and involves two vehicles. The extent of any injuries are unknown at this time.

SR 40 Pulaski Highway at Walther Road is currently closed and commuters are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes of travel.

Further details will be released upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reports from the scene indicate that one of the patients may have been taken into custody by Delaware State Police
