Police: Woman Charged With Abandonment, Child Was Waiting For Her To Return

Milford – On Sunday July 16, 2017 Milford Police (MPD) arrested Jill R. Griffith, 48 of Milford, after a warrant was obtained following an investigation into an abandoned child report, according to MPD Spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten.

Masten said On July 13, 2017 at approximately 7:05 pm, officers from the Milford Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the 900 block of North DuPont Boulevard (US Rt 113) to a report of a child who had been sitting near a business for an extended period of time.

Upon arrival the officers located a 14-year-old male who stated he had been left there by his mother and he was waiting for her return, according to Masten. Further investigation determined the child had a medical condition that appeared to have gone untreated, added Masten.

The juvenile was allegedly left with medications with no direction on how they should be taken, according to Masten.

The juvenile was taken into custody and turned over to the Delaware Division of Family Services. Ms. Griffith has been charged with Abandonment of a Child 14-years-old or over, Child Abuse 2nd Degree Recklessly / Intentionally Cause Physical Injury to a Child with Intellectual Disabilities, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Ms. Griffith was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #7 where bail was set at $1100.00 secured, along with a no contact order with the victim. Ms. Griffith has been committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.
