Newark Police: Man Had 10-Year-Old Son Assist Him In Acme Shoplifting

Newark – On Saturday August 5, 2017, at approximately 8:30 p.m. The Newark Police responded to the Acme in Suburban Plaza for a report of a shoplifting in progress and apprehend the subject in the parking lot, according to Sergeant Gerald J. Bryda.

Byrda said the subject was identified as 44-year-old Daniel Harris of Elkton, Maryland. It was determined that approximately $140 in merchandise was taken from the store without paying, according to Bryda.

Bryda said upon reviewing video surveillance, Harris went through the self check out and had his 10-year-old son assist him in taking the items. Officers also determined that Harris had an active arrest warrant for shoplifting from the same store by the Newark Police, added Byrda. Harris was charged with Shoplifting and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Harris was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on unsecured bond.
