Aetna Extricates Trapped Driver From Pickup On Route 896

Bear – This afternoon just after 12:00 pm crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, along with Delaware State Police responded to the 2000 block of Summit Bridge Road SB (Route 896/301) for reports of a crash involving a pickup truck and a dump truck.

Arriving crews found a Chevrolet Silverado with heavy damage to the front end and debris strewn about the roadway. Crews quickly advised 911 dispatch that they had two patients with one trapped inside the pickup. As crews work to extricate the patient from the pickup medics assisted the driver of the dump truck to an awaiting ambulance.

Rescue crews removed the door form the truck and extricated the patient after about 10 minutes.  Aetna ambulance crews transported both patients to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

As crews were preparing the patient for transport an alert Trooper, with obvious big rig skills, removed the dump truck from the roadway. The road was completely shutdown for approximately 30 mins.

Once fire crews cleared the scene police moved all vehicles to the side of the road as they investigated the accident.
