Man Injured In Amish Buggy Crash In Hartly

Hartly– The Delaware State Police is investigating a crash that occurred earlier this morning involving a horse and buggy, according Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred around 7:21 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 as a 25-year-old female from Hartly was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on Pearsons Corner Road just South of Yoder Drive. A horse and buggy driven by a 51-year-old man from Dover was traveling directly in front of the Equinox and was subsequently struck in the rear. The horse fled the scene, however was located uninjured on a nearby farm.

The operator of the Equinox was identified as Lauren Nickerson, was properly restrained and not injured. Nickerson was issued a traffic citation for Careless Driving.

The 51-year-old man was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
