Police Need Help Identifying Shoplifting Suspect

The Newark Police are investigating a shoplifting incident which occurred at the Acme in College Square Shopping Center on Saturday November 11, 2017 at approximately 10:15 p.m. On that date, an unknown black male entered the store and removed several boxes of Crest white strips valued over $250.00, according to police.

The store was able to obtain surveillance photos of the suspect. The Newark Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the shoplifter.

Pilgrim Baptist Church On Barksdale Road Criminal Mischief

The Newark Police responded to the Pilgrim Baptist Church on Barksdale Road for a report of a criminal mischief to a church van. During the overnight hours of Wednesday November 15th through Thursday November 16th, an unknown suspect shattered the van’s window by unknown means, said police.

After reviewing surveillance footage, a small dark colored pickup truck is seen stopping several different times on the shoulder of Barksdale Road near the van, and staying idle for approximately one minute.

Police Charge Man With 4th Offense DUI

On Sunday November 19th at approximately 2:36 p.m. the Newark Police responded to the Red Roof Inn on South College Avenue for a report of a disorderly subject in the lobby. The subject was upset because his room was not ready and he appeared intoxicated, according to police. The caller then stated that the subject left the lobby and got into a white pickup truck. It was reported that the vehicle sped out of the parking lot after striking a pole and a flower pot causing damage to both. Officers arriving on scene located the subject across the street in the Friendly’s parking lot, with the pickup truck parked nearby, said police. The truck had fresh damage consistent with just being in a collision, added police. Officers contacted and identified the suspect as Henry B. Smith, 53-years-old from Port Deposit, Maryland. Officers could detect that Smith was intoxicated, and located a bottle of vodka in his rear pocket, according to authorities. Smith was arrested and charged with 4th Offense DUI, Criminal Mischief, Open Container of Alcohol, and Failure to Report a Collision. Smith was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #11 and was issued $2,000.00 secured bail.
