Deer Causes Two Vehicles To Crash In Bear, One Rolling Over, Injuries

Bear – Just after 4:00 this morning, Sunday December 31, 2017, rescue crews from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, along with Delaware State Police and New Castle County Paramedics responded to the area of Summit Bridge Road and Chesapeake Road for reports of a vehicle crash with a rollover.

Crews were originally dispatched to the intersection of Summit Bridge Road and Red Lion Road but arriving units discovered that that intersection was clear. Crews searching the area found that the accident was closer to the C and D Canal on Summit Bridge Road.

Initial reports indicate that an suv traveling on on Summit Bridge Road swerved to miss a deer and rolled over at least once before coming to rest on all four wheels. Reports from the scene indicate that the woman driving the suv was able to remove herself from the vehicle before rescue crews arrived on scene.

The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The reports also indicated that a second vehicle either hit the same deer or also swerved to miss the deer causing that vehicle to crash as well. No injuries were reported from the second vehicle.
