24,000 Chickens Die In Early Morning Blaze In Maryland, Delaware Firefighters Respond

Kent County, Md. – At approximately 1:15 this morning, Friday, April 27, 2018, firefighters from the Community Fire Company of Millington, Maryland responded to 33000 block of Golts Road in Massey, Maryland for reports of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews found a 24,000 Square Foot Chicken House on fire.

Just a few minutes later, at 1:26 am, mutual aid was requested from Delaware firefighters. Crews from Townsend and Middletown were then dispatched to the scene.

Officials with the Maryland State Fire Marshal Office said that it took approximately fifty firefighters several hours to bring the 2 alarm blaze under control.

As a result of the fire, approximately 24,000 chickens perished in the fire, according the Fire Marshal.

Estimated loss of the structure is $150,000.00 and the contents $18,000.00.
