Officer Involved Rollover Crash In Middletown, Two To Trauma

Middletown – Just after 2:00 this afternoon crews from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, along with Middletown Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Silver Lake Road for reports of a pedestrian struck.

One officer, responding to the accident, was involved in a separate accident at the intersection of Route 299 and S Catherine Street. As the patrol vehicle collided with a vehicle, driven by a woman in her 70’s, it rolled twice before coming to rest on the hood of an oncoming passenger car.

Rescue crews responded to the second accident and transported four patients, according to witnesses at the scene. At this time we can only confirm that one patient was transported from that accident.

Crews responding to the first accident found an 18-year-old woman that had been struck by a vehicle, according to reports.

Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation Unit) responded to the scene and transported her to Christiana Hospital with a level 2 trauma alert called.

The woman in her 70’s was transported to Christiana Hospital by ground, also with a Trauma Alert.

It is unclear at this time if the officer sustained any injuries as a result of the accident. We are awaiting an update from officials.

Route 299 remains closed between S Catherine Street and Cleaver Farm Road, as officers continue to investigate, use alternate routes.
