Newark Police Make Arrest In Series Of Recent Gunpoint Robberies

The Newark Police have arrested Shaun C. Bingham, 25, of Newark and Josh A. Perry, 26, of Bear, during an in-progress robbery and have linked them to several others in the area, according to Sgt. Gerald Bryda.

Byrda said on Wednesday May 15, 2018, the Newark Police Criminal Investigations Division was conducting surveillance of area businesses in response to a recent spike in commercial robberies.

At approximately 10:55 p.m., as detectives were surveilling businesses in the area of South College Avenue, they witnessed a subject run into the Exxon located at 820 South College Avenue and commit a robbery, according to Byrda.

Detectives arrived as the suspect was fleeing the store and engaged in a foot pursuit. This suspect, identified as Shaun C. Bingham, was apprehended on Plymouth Drive.

Detectives then observed a vehicle which Bingham was fleeing towards. Josh A. Perry was taken into custody in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Recovered during the arrest was a BB gun, which resembled a real firearm, and evidence from the robbery, said Byrda. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to connect Bingham and Perry to two additional robberies in the City of Newark and one being investigated by the Delaware State Police.

Newark Police have charged Bingham with Robbery 1st Degree (2 counts), Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (3 counts),  Aggravated Menacing, and Conspiracy 2nd Degree (3 counts), Resisting Arrest

Troopers have charged Bingham with Robbery 1st Degree and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony

Newark Police have charged Perry with Robbery 1st Degree (2 counts), Attempted Robbery 1st Degree and Conspiracy 2nd Degree (3 counts)

The pair are being investigation for the following:

May 11, 2018 – Exxon, 263 East Chestnut Hill Road, Newark (DSP Robbery)
May 14, 2018 – Sunoco, 287 South Main Street, Newark (NPD Robbery)
May 15, 2018 – Red Roof Inn, 1119 South College Avenue, Newark (NPD Attempted Robbery)
May 16, 2018 – Exxon, 820 South College Avenue, Newark (NPD Robbery)
