On Sunday May 20, 2018, at approximately 7:32 p.m., the Newark Police responded to the Acme in Suburban Plaza for a report of a shoplifting in progress, according to Sgt. Gerald Bryda.

Byrda said as officers arrived on scene, employees pointed out a blue Acura leaving the area with the suspect inside. Officers pulled behind the Acura with emergency lights activated, when a female exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the Suburban Plaza parking lot, according to Byrda.

The female was apprehended and identified as 22-year-old Samantha Lennon of Wilmington. The stolen items consisted of over-the-counter medications and razors, totaling over $275.00.

The items were recovered and returned to the store, said Byrda. Lennon was charged with Shoplifting, Resisting Arrest and Breach of Release for this incident. Lennon was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #11, issued $1,600 secured bond and transported to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute.

Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact Officer Golden at [email protected] or 302-366-7100 ext. 3484.
