Two Displaced After Fire Races Through Delaware City Home Overnight

Delaware City – Just after 11:00 last evening, Thursday, August 17, Firefighters from the Delaware City Fire Company, along with mutual aid from surrounding companies responded to the 200 block of Hamilton Street for reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, crews reported fire showing from the garage. Firefighters began their attack on the fire while simultaneously searching the structure for possible victims. The primary and secondary search resulted in negative results, no one was in the home.

As crews worked to contain the blaze they reported that the fire in the garage had been knocked down while additional firefighters inside the structure reported that the fire had extended into the homes attic.

At 11:34 Delaware City Command reported that the fire was under control.

Initial reports indicate that the two residents that lived in the home were displaced as a result of the fire and were assisted by Red Cross.

Delaware State Fire Marshals responded to the scene and are investigating
