Reports: Multiple People Injured In I-495 Accident, Woman Fled On Foot With Child

At around 9:30 last evening, Wednesday, October 17, 2018, rescue crews from the Wilmington Fire Department, and Delaware State Police (DSP) responded to I-495 SB in the area of the Christiana River Bridge for a vehicle accident with multiple injuries.

Upon arrival, crews requested that Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) be alerted and dispatched to the scene. Crews then reported that one patient was trapped closed all lanes of I-495 SB.

In an update to dispatch, Command reported that he was working on a patient count, in addition to the one the patient was trapped. We’re working to determine the number of patients injured.

At the same time that crews were working to extricate the patient, crews began reporting that a woman had pulled a child from a vehicle and fled the scene, towards the Terminal Avenue.

Troopers were alerted and it’s believed that the woman and the child were located and transported to the hospital.

Not much is know about the conditions of the patients at this time, however, we are expecting DSP to release more about this accident later today.
