Update: Two Killed, One Seriously Injured Near Chesapeake City, Route 213 Remains Shutdown

Elkton, Md. – At approximately 5:30 this morning an off-duty medic came across an accident at in the 1800 block of Augustine Herman Highway at Spears Hill Road, near Chesapeake City.

As the medic assessed the scene he reported to dispatchers that one vehicle was rolled-over into a ditch and there was an injured subject in the vehicle.  There is debris all over the roadway, he reported.

Shortly after requesting an ambulance and paramedics, he alerted dispatch that he had located an additional vehicle with at least one injured person and requested additional crews to the scene.

Upon arrival, Command requested rescue crews from Chesapeake City, Elkton, Newark, and Middletown, along with Trooper 1 (Maryland State Police Aviation).

One patient was flown to the trauma center via Trooper 1. Two other patients succumbed at the scene, according to officials.

Route 213 is shut down between Elk Forest Road and Hemphill Road, just north of Chesapeake City, as police investigate the crash.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
