Police: Man Charged With Breaking Bottle Over Victims Head Carried Fake ID

On Friday morning, November 4, at approximately 3:23, the Milford Police Department Patrol Division was dispatched to the 300 block of SE Second Street in reference to a physical altercation. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who advised that the suspect, identified as William Baltazar Chavez, 29, of Milford, had allegedly broke a glass beer bottle over the victim’s head during a verbal altercation, according to Detective Timothy Maloney.

Maloney said the victim sustained injury due to this and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Officers learned that two children were present during the altercation and witnessed the assault. It was also learned that Baltazar Chavez was also in possession of a fictitious ID card, said Maloney. Baltazar Chavez was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Milford Police Department.

Baltazar Chavez was charged with one count of Assault 2nd Degree, Two counts of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, and Possession Of A Fictitious ID Card. Baltazar Chavez had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $3200.00 secured bail. A no-contact order was also put into place between Baltazar Chavez and the victims in this case. Baltazar Chavez was ordered to appear in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
