Just In: Man With A Gun Burglarized Newark Home In Broad Daylight

Newark Police are investigating a North Chapel Street burglary where the resident was home at the time, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubine said on Saturday afternoon, December 22nd, at around 4:16, a 21-year-old male victim called to report that his residence had just been entered by a male armed with a handgun. The victim reported that he was in his bedroom on the second floor when he heard voices on the first floor. He looked down the stairway of his residence and observed a male suspect with a handgun in his hand, said Rubin.

Upon seeing the victim, the male ran from the residence in an unknown direction. When police officers arrived and searched the residence they discovered that items had been stolen, according to Rubin. There was no damage found to the residence, added Rubin.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 20-25 years of age, braided hair and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. Rubin said the suspect displayed a handgun in his hand, however it was not pointed at the victim. A second unknown suspect may have also been involved.

A Newark Police K-9 unit responded to the scene and checked the area with negative results.
