Police: Man Charged With DUI After Crashing Into Main Street Restaurant In Newark

Early this morning, Sunday, December 23, 2018, at around 1:30, Newark Police were dispatched to the McDonald’s Restaurant at 374 East Main Street for a report of a vehicle in the drive thru whose operator was possibly intoxicated, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said arriving officers found Adam Adair, 27, of Elkton, in his vehicle in the drive thru. As officers began to speak with him, he was displaying signs and behavior consistent with intoxication, according to Rubin. Before officers could get him out of his vehicle, he fled down East Main Street at a high rate of speed, said Rubin.

Minutes later, Adair’s vehicle struck the Santa Fe Restaurant, located at 190 East Main Street. Officers arrived at that location and took him into custody. He was subsequently charged with DUI, Possession of Marijuana and additional traffic offenses.

He was released to appear in Newark Alderman’s Court at a later date.

The City of Newark Building Department responded to the scene to assess the damage to the building. The structure of the building was deemed to be safe.
