Police: Woman Carjacked At Gunpoint In Newark

At about 3:00 this morning, Wednesday, January 2, 2019, Newark Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a carjacking that had just occurred in the parking lot of the Rodeway Inn at 1120 South College Avenue.

Officers responded to the incident and contacted the female victim. The victim advised officers that she pulled into the parking lot and observed the suspect, who walked towards her. The suspect approached her vehicle and asked her a question. The suspect opened the car door pointing the pointed a silver handgun at her and demanded the keys to the vehicle, according to police, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.  Rubin said the suspect then struck the victim in the head and pulled her from the vehicle. The suspect entered the vehicle and fled south through the parking lot.

The victim went to a nearby room where 911 was called. The victim suffered lacerations to her face. She was transported by Aetna, Hose, Hook, and Ladder, ambulance to Christiana hospital for treatment and was later released.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-25 years of age, 5’8″ – 6’0″, 180-220 pounds and wearing green sweat pants, a green hoody sweatshirt with the hood over his head and a black ski mask that covered part of his face.

The vehicle stolen is a 2010 silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan with Delaware temporary tag XP632728.
