Crash Closes Route 13 In Townsend, Two Patients To Trauma Center

Townsend – Rescue crews from the Townsend and Odessa Fire Companies, along with New Castle County Paramedics have responded to Route 13 and Pine Tree Road for a vehicle into the water.

Upon arrival, crews reported that the vehicle was not submerged in the retention pond, however, the occupants could not get out of the vehicle. Water rescue crews have been recalled.

A second vehicle appears to have crossed over into the opposing lanes and has significant frontend damage.

Dispatched along with the other crews, Trooper 4 has landed at the scene and will transport.

Route 13 is closed in both directions.

Due to the serious nature of the injuries, the road is likely to be closed for some time.

One patient has been transported to the Trauma Center at Cristiana Hospital.

A second patient, believed to have suffered a medical condition prior to the accident, is also en route to the Trauma Center at Cristiana Hospital via ambulance with New Castle County Paramedics onboard.

The Delaware State Police have released the following statement.

“Townsend – The Delaware State are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, on U.S. 13 (DuPont Parkway) at Pine Tree Rd. in Townsend.

As a result of the crash all lanes of U.S. 13, both northbound and southbound are closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to seek alternate routes of travel.”
