Update: Bicyclist Cited After Being Struck By Car In Newark

The afternoon, Thursday, April 18, 2019, Newark Police were dispatched to the intersection of Apple Road and Winslow Road for a report of a crash involving a bicyclist, according to Lt . Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said the investigation revealed that a 20-year-old female bicyclist exited the Park ‘n Shop Shopping Center and failed to yield to a Honda Accord traveling northbound on Apple Road. The Honda struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital by Delaware State Police helicopter with non-life threatening injuries. The bicyclist was cited for Failure to Yield When Exiting a Driveway.

Breaking Report

Newark – Rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, Newark Police and Trooper 4 have been dispatched to Apple Road at Winslow Road for reports of a pedestrian struck.

Early reports indicate that the patient was struck while riding a bicycle and is seriously injured.

Update: The helicopter was on the ground for just a few minutes and has already arrived at the trauma center at Christiana Hosptial.

Newark Police released the following statement “Apple Road, between South Main Street and West Park Place, is currently closed while Newark Police investigate a crash involving a pedestrian.  Please use caution in the area and expect delays.”
