Paramedics Restart Man’s Heart After Lightning Strike In Newark, Two Transported

At approximately 4:15 this afternoon, New Castle County Paramedics and Christiana Fire Company were dispatched to the 100 block of Medley Drive in Harmony Woods for a report of a lightning strike injuring two patients, according to Paramedic Corporal Yvonne Russell.

Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found two patients underneath a tree that was struck by lightning.

The first patient, a 31-year-old-male, was struck by lightning and was found to be in cardiac arrest. New Castle County Paramedics were able to restart his heart and was transported to Christiana Hospital via Christiana Fire Company ambulance. The patient was in critical condition at the time of transport.

The second patient, 37-year-old-male, suffered injuries to his chest and leg. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via Christiana Fire Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition.
