Suspect Arrested After Returning To Retrieve His Phone

On Friday, July 19, 2019, at approximately 7:52 in the evening, officers responded to the Retreat apartment community near Suburban Plaza in reference to an assault.

Upon their arrival, police officers arrested Tiheed Roane, 19, of Wilmington, after learning that he had been in an altercation with a security guard for the apartment complex, according to police.

Officers made contact with the victim and were advised that she was investigating unauthorized subjects on the property. During her investigation, the suspect, later identified as Roane, struck her arm, knocking her phone out of her hand as she was attempting to take a photograph of his license plate, according to police.

Police said Roane picked the woman’s phone and fled the area in his vehicle. Shortly after the altercation, the security guard found another cell phone on the ground where the incident occurred.

When police arrived they found Roane, who had returned to the complex to retrieve his phone, arguing with the security guard, according to police.

Roane was charged with offensive touching, theft, criminal mischief (2 counts) and possession of marijuana (civil).
