Woman Charged With Assault Of Trooper Over The Weekend

Millsboro- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Millsboro woman after she attempted to file a false report and then proceeded to assault a Law Enforcement Officer, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on August 31, 2019 at approximately 1:56 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the 25000 block of River Bend Road, Long Neck Apartments for a report of a domestic. Upon arrival, Troopers met with the resident and reporting person, 51-year-old Laurie A. Parkin. As the Trooper made contact with Parkin at the front door, Parkin immediately became confrontational and irrational, according to Jaffe. It appeared that Parkin was under the influence at the time and she indicated that she had two children in the residence, said Jaffe. As the Trooper attempted to enter the residence, Parkin proceeded to push the Trooper out of the door way and a struggle ensued. Parkin was taken into custody after she resisted arrest while striking the Trooper, according to Jaffe. The Trooper sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

Through further investigations, it was determined that Parkin attempted to file a false domestic related report against her ex-husband who was not at the residence and had not made contact with Parkin on today’s date, Jaffe added.

Parkin was transported back to Troop 7 where she refused to be photographed and fingerprinted and was charged with the following:

Assault 2nd Injure a Law Enforcement Officer
Resisting Arrest Causing Injury to Law Enforcement Officer
Terroristic Threatening
Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2 counts)
Failure to Comply with Taking of Photos and Fingerprints
Falsely Reporting an Incident
Malicious Interference With Emergency Communications
Disorderly Conduct

Parkin was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $4020.00 secured bond.
