Police: Suspect Who Died In Officer-Involved Shooting Identified

Wilmington Police are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of North Washington Street.

At approximately 7:25 p.m. on Friday, August 30, police received a 911 call about shots being fired in the area of 28th and Washington Streets.

Upon arrival, police officers located a man, later identified as Ricardo Hylton, 35, of New Castle, armed with a fire,arm who was actively firing the gun when police arrived according to officials.

At the scene, two Wilmington Police officers engaged with Hylton, and both discharged their department-issued firearms, striking Hylton, officials said Friday.

Hylton received first aid from officers prior to the arrival of paramedics and transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials said that a firearm was recovered at the scene and that the two officers were not injured.

Authorities said the incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards and the Delaware Department of Justice.
