Three Year Old Boy Flown To A.I. After Serious Crash In Newark

At approximately 11:40 on Friday afternoon New Castle County Paramedics and Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company were dispatched to the intersection of Otts Chapel Road and Welsh Tract Road for a motor vehicle crash involving multiple patients.

Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found a three-vehicle motor vehicle crash with two patients needing advanced life support care. The first patient, a 3-year-old-male, suffered injuries to his head. The patient was transported to Alfred I. DuPont Children’s Hospital via Delaware State Police helicopter in care of New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.

The second patient, a 53-year-old-male, suffered injuries to his face, chest and arm. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport.

Otts Chapel Road was closed while Delaware State Police investigated the crash.

Breaking Report

Newark – Rescue crews from Aetna, Hose, Hook, and Ladder along with New Castle County Medics, the University of Delaware Ambulance (UD1), Cecil County and Trooper 2 have responded to Otts Chapel Road at Welsh Tract Road for a serious accident.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that several vehicles are involved. Multiple injuries have been reported.

Trooper 2 has landed near the accident. Aetna Chief Andrew Bowerson has requested Trooper 2’s medic to assist at the scene.

Update: At least one patient is en route to the hospital by ground with NCC Medics and Trooper 2’s medic onboard. (Update: This ambulance transported the child to the helicopter not the hospital.)
