Rescue Crews Free Trapped Driver In Newark Tuesday

Newark – At 4:09 Tuesday Morning Rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder along with Delaware State Police and New Castle County Medics were dispatched to Otts Chapel Road in the area of Welsh Tract Road for a vehicle accident with injuries. While en route to the crash crews learned that one subject was reported to be unconscious.

Crews arrived to find a two-vehicle collision with a subject trapped. Paramedics began patient care as firefighters performed a side-wall removal using hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the trapped occupant. Extrication was completed in just over 10 minutes, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Sands.

The occupant was transported to Christiana Hospital by Aetna ambulance and New Castle County Paramedics. The occupant of the second vehicle was evaluated on scene by Aetna EMT’s but refused transport to the hospital.
