Woman Killed In Middletown Crash, Child Flown To A.I DuPont

Middletown – At around 3:20 Saturday afternoon rescue crews from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, along with Trooper 4,  medics from New Castle and Kent Counties and officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Levels Road, for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed that one patient was trapped. Shortly after Trooper 4 landed near the scene Command alerted dispatch that the patient had been extricated. The woman was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The second patient, a 10-year-old child riding in the same vehicle, was transported to A.I. DuPont via Trooper 4 with non-life-threatening.

Police said that the crash involved a 2005 Ford F-350 which struck a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. The officers were able to determine that the Ford F-350 was traveling Southbound on Route 301 and attempted to overtake a traffic jam by driving on the grassy area of Route 301. While attempting to merge back onto the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the Northbound lanes of Levels Road, according to police. The F-350 then struck the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The driver of the Ford F-350 was not injured in the crash.

Officials said that the investigation is still ongoing, however, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.
