Elderly Man Ejected In I-495 Crash, Road Closed For Hours

On September 15, 2020, at 12:19, New Castle County Paramedics, along with emergency crews from Claymont Fire Company, and Delaware State Police Aviation, were alerted to a motor vehicle collision with reports of a subject ejected, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal Ruoy Koontz.

Koontz said the incident occurred on Interstate 495 South Bound at Naamans Road. On arrival, one patient was found that required advanced life support care.

The patient, an elderly male, was found with life-threatening injuries. On-scene, the patient was treated by New Castle County Paramedics for multiple injuries. The patient was later transported to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Room via Claymont Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in critical condition during transport.

Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.
