Car Passenger Struck By Gunfire Monday In Newark

Newark Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Monday morning, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said on December 7, 2020, at about 2:10, Newark Police responded to a parking lot in the 800 block of Library Avenue for a report of a shooting. Arriving officers found a female victim who suffered a wound to the foot after having been struck by a bullet.

Rubin said the victim and other occupants were in the vehicle when the passenger side was struck by gunfire. The vehicle had been traveling in the area of East Delaware Avenue and Library Avenue. Although the victim and some witnesses remained at the scene, the vehicle the victim was riding in left the scene. That vehicle has since been located by Newark Police detectives.

One passenger was struck and was treated and released from an area hospital for a non-life-threatening injury to the leg.

This investigation is in the early stages as detectives are obtaining various statements from witnesses and are examining the vehicle. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
