Head-On Collision Involving A Tractor-Trailer Seriously Injures Woman Friday Morning

New Castle City Police are investigating this morning’s head-on collision north of Dobbinsville that injured a woman.

Just before 7:40 Friday morning New Castle County Paramedics and the Goodwill Fire Company were dispatched to the area of West Seventh Street (Route 9) and Larkin Street for a head-on collision involving a passenger van and a tractor-trailer.

Police said the van was traveling northbound on Route 9 when it crossed over the double yellow line and struck the tractor-trailer traveling southbound.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene they found the driver of the van, a 53-year-old woman suffering from possible head and internal injuries. She was transported to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition according to Paramedic PIO S/Sergeant Abigail Haas.

Police said that speed does not appear to be a factor and the reason for the vehicle not maintaining its lane is under investigation.
