Man Serving Life In Smyrna Double Slaying Dies In Prison

The Delaware Department of Correction announced today that 73-year-old Gilbert E. Rochester died in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center’s infirmary on Friday, April 22.

In 2016 Rochester, of Clayton, was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to Murder First Degree. In December of 2015, Rochester went to his in-laws’ home in Smyrna and killed his estranged wife Cathy Lane, 56, and his mother-in-law Louise Cavuto-Carrow, 80 according to court records. Lane was stabbed to death, and Cavuto-Carrow was bludgeoned.

Officials said that Rochester had been under medical care for multiple serious medical conditions and had recently been placed on hospice care.
