Police Make Arrest In Canby Park Shooting Of 14-Year-Old Boy

Wilmington Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at approximately 6:44 p.m., in the 600 block of South Union Street inside of Canby Park.

Police located a 14-year-old male gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Wilmington Police have charged a 15-year-old in connection with yesterday’s shooting incident on South Union Street.

Officials said on Monday at approximately 6:44 p.m., police were dispatched to the 600 block of South Union Street, in Canby Park, in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Police located a 14-year-old male gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Members of the Safe Streets Task Force, who responded to the incident, located 3 juveniles leaving the scene. They took the three juveniles – a 15-year-old male and two 14-year-old males – into custody without incident, and recovered a loaded .40-caliber handgun and ammunition police saud Tuesday.

The case was assigned to Detective Michael Hayman of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Hayman identified the 15-year-old male as a suspect in connection with the shooting incident.

Warrants were obtained for the following charges:
Assault (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Four Counts
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
Reckless Endangering – Three Counts
Conspiracy (Second Degree)
The 15-year-old male was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $108,500 cash-only bail.

Police also charged one of the 14-year-old males with the following offenses:
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
The 14-year-old male was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $10,000 cash-only bail.
