Police: Skateboarder Struck An Killed Thursday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Delmar that left one man dead.

Officials said on September 7, 2023, at approximately 5:51 p.m., a white 2018 Hyundai Tucson was traveling northbound on BiState Boulevard north of Allens Mill Road. Just north of the Tucson, a man on a motorized skateboard was riding in the center of BiState Boulevard. For unknown reasons, the man swerved right in the Tucson’s path according to police. The Tucson swerved right to avoid the pedestrian, however, he continued into the northbound lane and was struck by the Tucson.

Officials said due to the impact, the pedestrian was forced onto the windshield before falling off and coming to rest in the northbound lane of BiState Boulevard. The Tucson continued swerving right and struck a mailbox on private property.

The person who was struck, a 27-year-old Laurel man, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Tucson, a 21-year-old Fruitland, Maryland woman, was not injured. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
