Officials Identify Woman Killed In Accident Over The Weekend

The Delaware State Police have released details surrounding a fatal car accident in Smyrna, that claimed the life of Christina Thompson, a 47-year-old resident of Clayton.

Officials said the incident occurred on the evening of November 4, 2023, and involved a single vehicle operated by Thompson.

According to authorities, the black 2016 Honda Accord driven by Thompson was eastbound on Wheatleys Pond Road near the vicinity of Sunnyside Road. Preliminary findings suggest the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control police said. The car reportedly could not manage a curve, resulting in it leaving the roadway and crashing into a ditch. The vehicle’s trajectory continued through the ditch, leading to its overturning. During this event, Thompson, who was not secured by a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle according to police.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and Thompson was subsequently transported to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.

The accident prompted officials to close the affected portion of Wheatleys Pond Road for an estimated three hours to facilitate the investigation.
