The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating a manufactured home fire that occurred early this morning in Frederica. The fire was reported around 3:00 a.m. in the unit block of Sycamore Drive in the High Point Mobile Home Park by a passing motorist.

The Magnolia and Bowers Beach Fire Companies were the first to respond to the fire, arriving to find the flames had spread from an attached deck into the home itself. Additional fire companies, as well as EMS services, were called to assist in managing the situation.

Neighbors and the passing motorist who reported the fire rescued two elderly victims from the home before the fire department’s arrival. Both individuals were transported to Bayhealth Kent Hospital by EMS and later transferred to Crozer Medical Center in Pennsylvania, where their conditions are listed as critical. Additionally, one individual involved in the rescue efforts was taken to Bayhealth Kent Hospital for smoke inhalation and has since been released.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control shortly before 4:00 a.m. Deputy State Fire Marshals were on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time. The estimated damage from the fire is around $20,000.
