Happening Now: Shooting At Newark-Area Shopping Center Injures One

At approximately 10:03 on Friday morning, a shooting reportedly occurred on Songsmith Drive in Newark, in the area of the Taylortown Shopping Center. Emergency units from the Christiana Fire Company, New Castle County Police, and New Castle County Paramedics responded to reports of a male suffering from gunshot wounds near a tobacco shop within the shopping center.

Upon arrival, responders found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The individual was given immediate medical care at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. The current condition of the victim has not been disclosed.

Law enforcement officials have secured the area and are actively investigating the incident.

 Officials have advised the public can expect to see several road closures and an increased police presence. Please use alternate routes of travel and avoid the area.
