Tractor trailer destroyed by fire at Newark service center

Firefighters responded to a tractor-trailer fire late Friday night at the I-95 Service Center in Newark. Just after 10:40 p.m., units from Aetna and the Christiana Fire Company were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle fire.

Upon arrival, crews found a tractor-trailer fully engulfed in flames and immediately began suppression efforts. As firefighters worked to contain the blaze, on-scene command requested additional assistance from Belvedere’s Hazmat 30 and DNREC.

After approximately an hour, command declared the fire under control. However, hazmat teams remained on-site to manage any fuel spills and hazardous material concerns. Cleanup efforts continued into early Saturday morning, with hazmat crews clearing the scene shortly before 3 a.m.

Initial reports indicate that the truck’s driver was able to escape without injury.
