Police: Two Kilos Of Cocaine Seized In Route 1 Stop

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. — Detectives from the New Castle County Police Drug and Human Trafficking Investigations Team arrested a Selbyville man Wednesday morning on multiple felony drug offenses following a traffic stop along Route 1.

Officials said on June 18, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., investigators observed a Cadillac traveling on Route 1 near Pole Bridge Road committing several traffic violations. The vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Alfonzo Johnson of Selbyville, was stopped by detectives, who made contact with Johnson, the sole occupant.

During the course of the stop, detectives established probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle. The subsequent search led to the discovery of two kilograms of cocaine concealed within the car.

Johnson was taken into custody without incident and transported to New Castle County Police headquarters. He was charged with one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, one felony count of possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, as well as one traffic violation for following a motor vehicle too closely and one violation for failure to signal continuously.

Johnson was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $120,000 cash bail.
