Dover Man Arrested on Rape and Strangulation Charges

A 36-year-old Dover man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on charges of rape and strangulation following an investigation by the Dover Police Department.

Authorities responded at approximately 2:34 p.m. to a report of a sexual assault at a residence within the City of Dover. Investigators determined that the suspect, identified as Antonio Powell, was known to the victim and had been inside the residence when he allegedly strangled and sexually assaulted her. To protect the victim’s identity, the specific location of the incident is not being released.

A warrant for Powell’s arrest was secured, and at 3:33 p.m., he was taken into custody without incident by a Dover Police Motor Unit Officer near the intersection of West Reed Street and South Governors Avenue.

Powell was transported to the Dover Police Department for processing and arraignment. He was subsequently committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $110,000 cash bail. He is charged with Rape in the First Degree and Strangulation.
