Latest On Police Search In Newark

NEWARK, Del. — Authorities in New Castle County responded to an incident in the Meritage neighborhood overnight, leading to a significant police presence and search efforts that continued into Monday morning.

Officers were focused on a residence in the neighborhood, where they were searching for as many as three individuals. At least one person was taken into custody, though the status of the other subjects remains unclear at this time.

Residents in the area of Fraser Road and Margaux Circle reported being awake for much of the night due to a police helicopter that began circling the neighborhood shortly after 2:00 a.m. Witnesses described seeing law enforcement officers from multiple agencies, as well as K-9 units, searching the neighborhood and surrounding areas.

Officials advised the public to avoid the area during the investigation, citing road closures and a heavy presence of emergency vehicles. By 7:15 a.m., police announced that the immediate incident had been resolved. However, investigators remain on scene, and an increased police presence is expected to continue throughout the day.

Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to public safety and that residents may resume their normal activities. Additional information regarding the nature of the investigation and the individuals involved has not yet been released.
