On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 3:58 p.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the area of Wilton Boulevard and Stonebridge Boulevard for a report of a shooting that had just occurred.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim identified as 18-year-old Mateo Renato Banegas of New Castle, Delaware, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by responding officers and Emergency Medical Services, who transported him to a nearby hospital, Mateo Renato Banegas ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Detectives from the Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit are still investigating this incident, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
