Emergency Road Closure Announced In Sussex County

Delmar, DE — The Delaware Department of Transportation has announced the emergency closure of a section of Delmar Road beginning Monday, August 4, 2025. The affected stretch, located between Providence Church Road and Old Racetrack Road, will remain closed through Thursday, August 7, 2025, to allow for urgent infrastructure repairs.

Transportation officials said that a failed crossroad pipe is responsible for the closure. Crews are working to complete the repair.

Motorists traveling in the area are advised to follow the posted detours. Eastbound drivers are instructed to turn left onto Old Racetrack Road, then proceed to West Line Road before turning right onto Providence Church Road. Westbound traffic should take a right onto Providence Church Road, turn left onto West Line Road, and follow Old Racetrack Road to rejoin Delmar Road beyond the closure point.

Drivers should anticipate possible delays and are encouraged to allow additional travel time.
