Man Charged In Kohl’s Parking Lot Knife-Point Robbery

Delaware State Police have charged a Newark man in connection with a knifepoint robbery that took place outside a retail store on Kirkwood Highway.

Officials said on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at approximately 6:50 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Kohl’s department store at 4437 Kirkwood Highway following reports of a robbery. Investigators determined that a man approached a woman sitting in her vehicle, opened the door, and threatened her with a knife while demanding her belongings. The victim complied, and the suspect fled the scene in a white Dodge Ram pickup truck headed toward Kirkwood Highway. The woman was not injured.

Detectives quickly identified the suspect as 45-year-old Juan Carbajal of Newark, Delaware. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody the following day. Carbajal was transported to Troop 6, where he was formally charged with Robbery in the First Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $50,000 cash bond.
