Police: Suspect Charged In Middletown Auto Theft Investigation

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m., officers from the New Castle County Police Department’s B-Squad responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Astaire Place and Stravinsky Avenue in The Village of Bayberry South.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2024 Kia Forte reported stolen overnight from another residence within the same neighborhood.

As officers were investigating the recovered stolen vehicle, a second emergency call was received from the 2500 block of Chopin Drive, also located in Bayberry South. The caller reported that a suspect had just broken a window on a 2015 Kia Soul and was attempting to steal the vehicle.

Responding officers quickly arrived and observed a suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of the Kia Soul. The individual, later identified as 19-year-old Ni’yione Carter of New Castle, was wearing a surgical mask and holding a screwdriver police said. He was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, officers said they discovered a credit card belonging to the owner of the previously recovered Kia Forte near the location of the attempted theft.

Carter was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and formally charged with one felony count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, one felony count of possession of burglar tools, one felony count of attempted motor vehicle theft, and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief involving property damage between $1,000 and $5,000.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
